Another disappointing night for the Prince George Cougars in Portland, taking an 8-1 pounding at the hands of the Winterhawks. The Cats head home to get ready to take on the Victoria Royals in a weekend home doubleheader Friday and Saturday night .

Congratulations to Prince George curlers Garnet Boese and David Johnston. They teamed up with two Kamloops curlers to win the Provincial men's senior championship over the weekend. They will head to the Nationals in Abbotsford in a month. Before that, both players will be among the field for this weekend's annual Kelly Cup. This year they won't have to face as many teams as they have in the past.

The Cougars continuing a four game road trip this afternoon on holiday Monday in the states. After a weekend split in Victoria they were in Portland for a matinee. The Cats felt the wrath of the Winterhawks who scored three in the first and second periods on their way to a 7-2 win. The victory moved the Hawks into second in the West and top spot in the US division. Troy Bourke and Dalton Siwak had the Cougar goals. Drew Owsley gave up five goals on 24 shots. While Devon Fordyce was solid in relief stopping 24 of 26 fired his way. Same teams meet Tuesday evening in Portland.

If at first you don't succeed, try try again. The Prince George Cougars lost to Victoria Friday, but came out victorious last night winning 3-1. The Cougars got goals from Dan Gibb, Caleb Belter and Greg Fraser, and goaltender Drew Owsley made 28 saves. Next up for the Cats is a matinee game against Portland tomorrow. The puck drops at 3 o'clock.

The Spruce Kings played in front of a full house last night, but couldn't pull out a win against Nanaimo. The Kings lost 3-2 at home, getting goals from Leo Fitzgerald and Jarryd Ten Vaanholt. The Kings will be on the road next weekend, with the first game on Friday against the Westside Warriors.

The UNBC basketball teams end their regular season with wins. The Women defeated Kwantlen last night 87-50, ending their season with a 15-1 record, which earned them first place in the PACWEST standings. The Men won 92-72, clinching second place. Both teams now have a bye into the PACWEST Championship semi-finals on March 2nd. They will take on Capilano.

The Prince George Cougars lost their first of two games against the Victoria Royals last night. With the Royals scoring four goals in the second period, the Cougars were unable to bounce back and lost 4-2. The two Cougars goals came from Caleb Belter and Jake Mykitiuk. The Cats are back in action against the Royals again tonight from Victoria. Puck drop is at 7 o'clock.

Over a thousand fans took in the Spruce Kings game last night, and they didn't leave disappointed. The Kings went into overtime with Chilliwack, and Gerry Fitzgerald scored in OT to give the Kings a 4-3 win. The team will be on the ice again tonight to take on Nanaimo. The game starts at 7 from the Coliseum.

A great night for the UNBC basketball teams last night. The Women defeated Langara 66-41, and with VIU's loss to Capilano that puts the Timberwolves in first place of the PACWEST standings. The Men went into double overtime against Langara and came out winning 98-94. They remain in second place. Both teams will be in action against Kwantlen tonight for their last regular season game. The Women tip off at 6, and the Men at 8.

In that game tomorrow night when the Spruce Kings welcome Naniamo. There will be a few story lines to follow. This will be a big game for the Fitzgerald triplets, but also for the Kings organization to prove a point to a couple players on the Clippers.

The Spruce Kings are down to their final 10 games and only four are at home. This weekend they will play two more in the Castle. Tonight they get the Chilliwack Chiefs who sit behind them in the standings.

Those interested in playing lacrosse, along with players and coaches from last year are encouraged to attend the Senior lacrosse Annual General Meeting this afternoon. The meeting will take place at 1:00 at the AIM-HI gym at 950 Kerry Street. The teams will also look to the future by drafting graduating midget players.

Back to Charles Inglis and his return to Prince George. He was sent home by the Cougars for breaking team rules in early December. When he got to Red Deer he was quick to go on record by saying he wasn't treated well in PG. While he wouldn't comment on that he did give his two cents about being in Red Deer.

The Prince George Cougars inched closer to a playoff spot after a 3-1 home ice win over Red Deer last night. The Cats only trail Victoria by two points and have two games in hand. This weekend the Cougars can move ahead of the Royals for the final playoff position with a pair of wins in Victoria. The double header begins tomorrow night.
